What is Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to help medical conditions. The oils are inhaled, massaged in to the body or used while in a bath and it has been found that certain oils have certain healing properties. By inhaling the oils it is believed that they enter the body through the nose and reach the limbic system and endocrine glands which effect hormonal changes and emotions.

It is believed that the different oils have different effects on the body including relaxation, stimulation and uplifting effects.

Commonly used oils include lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint and tea tree.

Aromatherapy was first used thousands of years ago and is popular because it is not invasive. It is felt, by some, to be better for the body to use something that is not ingested by the body.

The use of aromatherapy is becoming more and more popular and research is showing that it has benefits to certain people.

If you are interested I using it, then find out what would be the best for you, by analysing the research that has been done.

It is well worth noting that if you have any diseases or are taking any medication or if you are pregnant that you should avoid using essential oils until you have talked to your doctor first as some cannot be used. Some medical conditions mean that it is not possible to use certain oils due to ill effects.

Never replace your prescribed medication with an alternative treatment without discussing it with your doctor first.
